The Porch Light’s Point Of View

sol

I stay up all night keeping watch.

I see shady characters come and go as I worry about their intentions.  I see lovers pass by holding hands and I see philosophers on early morning strolls-sometimes with a dog in tow.  Speaking of animals, boy do I see animals! I joyously watch their carefree play–suspiciously darting in and out of yards and bushes while scavenging for food. I’m happy they count on me for a bit of light in the darkness. My other friends, the sprinklers, love that I honor their wet and cold work with my flickering light.

I do all this; and yet each morning you flick me off without a single fleeting thought.

No matter.  Tonight, I’ll do it all over again.
